Yesterday, our Provost dropped by for an hour long Q&A session with the staff in our department. The thing is that Web Services is a very small part of a department that is primarily focused on providing support for classroom technologies and our Learning Management System. Web Services is a just tiny little corner of this department.
Anyway, I've been so influenced by all the Web recruiting blogs I've been reading, and all the higher ed recruiting and enrollment people I've been interacting with online lately, that I could only think of one question to ask her. And it sounded really weird and out of place in that environment.
I'm supposed to be a techie, dammit! I curse all you recruiting and marketing types who have infected me with your twisted way of seeing the world!!
OK, so this isn't the funniest cartoon ever written, but it really happened.

The Web Redesign Conference
OK, another absolutely true story. I swear.
The only differences between the cartoon and the absolute truth are:
The truth may be stranger than fiction, but it's rarely more fun.
The only differences between the cartoon and the absolute truth are:
- It was an online webinar held in a windowless conference room instead of a real live conference in a big city
- They let us in anyway, even though our accounting department never paid them, and we had to watch the webinar instead of drinking martinis by the pool
The truth may be stranger than fiction, but it's rarely more fun.

Desperate Times...
For some reason we have a heck of a time finding knowledgeable student assistants to work in Web Services.
I don't get it. Everything students do today is Web-based, but nobody at our school seems to be interested in doing Web design or Web development. Maybe it would help if we had some Web-oriented programs on campus. Maybe.

Mission: Impossible
As I said in my other blog, our CIO is going to task our Web governance group to "determine the purpose of the university's Web site."
This can't end well.

We Love Our Clients...We Just Don't Understand Them
OK, so this doesn't fit into the classic three panel strip, and it's probably not even funny...but it's a true story (with some minor fibrications*) nonetheless.
